DNV is seeking a talented and motivated Graduate Metocean Analyst/ Oceanographer to join our London Metocean team. 
The team is at the forefront of implementing the green energy transition around the world today, providing sophisticated solutions and engineering assessments to support offshore renewable energy installation projects around the globe, as well as ensuring safe operations for our oil and gas customers. 
Meteorological and oceanographic information is a key requirement for location approvals, transportation design, structure design and weather-limited operations. For more than 35 years, our London - based metocean department has been a global centre of excellence, providing thousands of reports to the marine and offshore industries, and describing the meteorology and oceanography of locations all over the world. DNV offers a complete range of metocean solutions, including:

  • Spot location reports;
  • Transportation criteria;
  • Numerical modelling using Mike 21 FM and SW models;
  • Design studies for offshore structures;
  • Tropical cyclone analysis;
  • Metocean criteria for operation planning.

The purpose of the role is to contribute to the Metocean Engineering team to deliver the core technical work for projects, both internally and for external stakeholders.

The objective of the Metocean Engineering team is to deliver an efficient and effective metocean service into customer organisations in order to secure repeat business and project targets for the metocean business line. The successful candidate will join as part of a team of Oceanographers and Metocean Engineers based in London, undertaking metocean studies using sophisticated oceanographic modelling techniques for the offshore renewable, and oil & gas sectors. The successful applicant will spend approximately 70% to 80% of their time undertaking technical Metocean analysis work with the remainder spent assisting developing metocean tools and/or business development. The role is office based but DNV is working towards developing a hybrid model that will combine office and remote work.

Key responsibilities:

  • To carry out metocean studies to produce data used for the design and/ or assessment of fixed, floating and mobile offshore structures, pipelines, windfarms, etc. and the associated report writing in a timely, concise and efficient manner to be within budget and timescale;
  • To support numerical modelling studies using MIKE 21 software;
  • To assist the team in developing data analysis tools using MATLAB;
  • To assist with the business development by contributing to proposals, as well as client and project management;
  • To collaborate with peers to deliver projects to a high standard.

Position Qualifications

To qualify, you need to have:

  • Degree in Oceanography, Marine Engineering or related field;
  • A strong background in ocean and atmosphere dynamics, and statistical analysis;
  • Excellent computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office, Matlab (or any programming tools as Fortran or C++), and, ideally, numerical flow and wave models;
  • Experience in modelling studies, ideally using MIKE21 software - a key advantage;
  • Fluency in spoken and written technical English with excellent report writing skills.
