DNV Energy Systems is looking for a Power System Study Engineer to join our team and contribute to the planning and integration of onshore and offshore renewable energy, non-wire alternatives, and energy storage systems to the electrical grid. You will have the opportunity to use your deep technical expertise and project management skills to deliver top service to our customers.

 

This is a remote position based from any location in the continental U.S.

 

What You'll Do

  • Execute power system transient and sub-transient analyses for medium and large power system networks as part of grid expansion analyses, North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) compliance requirements and/or ISOs’ interconnection or transmission planning guidelines.
  • Review and modify PSS/E dynamic models associated with power grids including developing and/or modifying the dynamic contingency definitions per applicable planning criteria and model inputs around supply, demand and grid topology
  • Develop, validate and benchmark customized, or generic PSS/E dynamic models associated with power system components including any emerging technologies
  • Review and modify PSCAD/EMTDC models associated with power grids including developing and/or modifying the models associated with various components including inverter-based units, FACTs as well as various control techniques
  • Propose and evaluate grid solutions to enhance the grid reliability and market efficiency
    Develop or modify automation scripts to enhance the efficiency, speed and accuracy of technical simulations
  • Assist with the team’s research goals in terms of development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to further the team’s performance in terms of efficiency and/or capability improvements
  • Actively attend ISO/RTO market stakeholder meetings and stay up-to-date with ISO/RTO market changes in terms of market developments and policy changes

Position Qualifications

What is Required 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Power System Engineering
  • Experience in performing Power System dynamics and transient stability simulations using Siemens PSS/E software, or experience in performing  Power System sub transient/EMT simulations using PSCAD software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to work in a high-paced team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PPT)
  • We conduct pre-employment background and drug screenings

What is Preferred

  • Graduate level degree with emphasis on Electric Power Systems
  • Experience with power system analysis software packages such as PSLF, PowerWorld, ASPEN and PSCAD/EMTDC

As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act and New York City Salary Transparency Law, DNV provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado or New York City. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of Colorado and New York City, NY only, the range of starting pay for this role is $60,000 -$100,000
