About you

This role puts you at the forefront of the global energy transition. You will collaborate on innovative, early-phase projects, delivering industry-defining results to our customers. You will develop your skills and support us in enhancing our reputation for quality, innovation, and integrity. You will perform with a high degree of individual responsibility in a role you can actively shape.

You have a good understanding of the economic and commercial aspects of the energy sector and its regulatory framework. You have strong analytical skills and first practical experience in the energy sector.

Your tasks in this role will include the following:

  • Providing strategic and analytical advice for our clients on (future) energy systems, energy infrastructures, energy markets, and business models.
  • Delivering consulting projects for clients as part of a project team.
  • Becoming an expert point of contact for our customers in one or several of the following areas:
    • analysis and design of electricity and/or gas markets (wholesale and balancing markets).
    • system services and demand side flexibility.
    • economics of renewable energies (including green hydrogen and battery storage).
    • economic regulation and tariff setting.
    • economic and financial assessment of energy infrastructures and business models.
    • power market modelling.
  • Contributing to the continuous development and expansion of our services, including acquiring new projects and writing winning proposals.

  • Individual training and development opportunities.
  • Flexible working hours, a combination of office and home office work, and a focus on work/life balance.

The team

Our diverse team includes experienced experts and young enthusiastic talents. We value teamwork and an open, respectful, and cooperative way of working. By joining us, you will form part of a local team in a global company of almost 12,000 employees.

The team located in Bonn (Germany) is providing economic and commercial advice on the energy sector to clients in the DACH countries and internationally. We focus on the energy transition and the impact of the switch to renewable energy resources. Rapid changes create uncertainty and risk from a market perspective, and we take an active role in helping our clients manage that risk through in-depth knowledge of power, gas and the broader energy markets. We help our clients to develop sustainable business models and strategies and to take informed decisions on energy infrastructure investments, including transaction support. We support government entities in the design of energy markets and their regulation. We advise electricity and gas network operators to adapt to new challenges and regulations. Our services include policy and market analysis, economic regulation and energy market design, market and system integration of renewable energies, economic and financial assessment of investments, assets and business models, commercial and regulatory due diligence, market modelling, and power price forecasting. Our clients are financial institutions, utilities, network operators, project developers, regulators, and various energy- and climate-focused government entities.

International collaboration is fundamental to how we operate. The German Energy Markets and Strategy (EMS) team is part of the EMS department in the region Northern Europe, which consists of 90 consultants working from offices in the Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark. Cooperation across the department is strong. We also collaborate with similar teams of DNV in other European countries, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas. We furthermore work closely with technology-focused teams within DNV, specializing on topics such as power grids, wind, solar, energy storage, e-mobility, district heating, gas networks, hydrogen, carbon capture, or decarbonization and fuel switching in heavy industry.

You should have the following:

  • First work experience in the energy sector.
  • Good knowledge of European energy markets, the economics of renewable energies, and the regulation of the energy sector.
  • Good quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
  • Master's degree or PhD with a major in Economics, Finance, Business Administration or Business Engineering with a specialization in energy.
  • Excellent English language skills (written and spoken).
