DNV’s Risk Advisory Team North America is looking for a Senior or Principal Risk Management Consultant to help us in our own transition. The team traditionally focused on personal and process safety risk assessments but is expanding our practice into new areas, including climate change and ESG risk assessments.

 

This position will be Remote/Hybrid with preference for candidates residing near a DNV Office in Arlington, VA, Medford or North Andover, MA, Houston, TX, New York, NY, or Oakland, CA

 

This senior-level position requires an adaptable, creative thinker who can help us enhance our services to include new realities and expected changes in the future. A successful candidate must be equally comfortable working in teams and collaborating virtually or working independently with minimal supervision.

 

In this role as a Risk Management Consultant, you will be familiar with

  • Traditional qualitative and quantitative risk assessment tools and techniques
  • Climate risk assessment and intersection with decarbonization strategies, climate equity and policy, thought leadership relative to the energy transition.
  • Business development best practices

The team’s traditional focus was on conducting qualitative and quantitative risk assessments concerning personal and process safety. Most clients are in the oil and gas sector but include other process industries and increasingly involve low-carbon products. One area of future work involves enhancing existing quantitative risk assessment tools and techniques by incorporating forward climate models into the analyses.

 

In addition to the traditional focus areas, our team provides strategic consulting to our clients including risk assessments related to climate change and ESG considerations. This requires experience with ESG frameworks and standards. This work will be done within the team and may involve other parts of DNV that focus on decarbonization strategies, energy efficiency, and business assurance.

 

A successful candidate will have competencies in several of the areas listed below:

  • Qualitative safety studies involve tools such as HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, CFD, etc.
  • Quantitative safety studies involving CFD, Consequence modeling, etc.
  • Advanced simulation modeling using tools like Phast, Safeti, KFX, FLACS, etc.
  • Environmental Risk Assessment
  • Environmental Advisory, Framework and Regulations
  • Frameworks like the TCFD, EU Taxonomy, GRI, SASB/IFRS/ISSB, etc.
  • GHG Emission Assessment
  • Climate Risk Assessment and Programs
  • Project risk management
  • Risk Management Systems Implementation, Assessment and Advisory
  • ESG Management Systems Implementation, Assessment and Advisory

What You Will Do:

  • Lead quantitative risk assessments for a variety of customers in the process industries
  • Lead strategic climate change and ESG risk assessments, including due diligence studies
  • Act as project manager, coordinating resources and personnel within the constraints of time and budget to achieve project objectives
  • Interface with regional clients and maintain client satisfaction by delivering results
  • Support DNV business development efforts
  • Demonstrate thought leadership in risk management

Position Qualifications

What is Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (science, technology, engineering, mathematics)
  • 10 or more years of related professional work experience
  • Project management experience with complex and simultaneous projects
  • Excellent technical written and verbal communication skills in the English language
  • Willingness and ability to travel, which at times may last a whole week or more (Domestic & International)
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to rent and drive a car
  • Pre-employment drug and background screening

What is Preferred:

  • Graduate degree in quantitative field or business
  • Business Development Experience
  • Experience in probabilistic modeling including economic modeling
  • Knowledge about the TCFD and other relevant climate change standards used nationally or internationally by businesses to report on their climate-related risks
  • Experience with sustainability reporting standards such as GRI, SASB/IFRS, EU Taxonomy, etc.
  • Experience working with social impact businesses or the not-for-profit sector

As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act and New York City Salary Transparency Law, DNV provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado or New York City. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of Colorado and New York City, NY only, the range of starting yearly salary for this role is $110,000- $165,000.
