Local Unit & Position Description

DNV, the independent expert in assurance and risk management, is seeking an Senior Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Consultant within our UK and Ireland Markets and Risk Department. 

 

Reporting to either our Manchester or London office, the position offers the possibility of working from home three days per week. 

 

As a member of our dedicated ESG team, you will work with customers struggling with the challenges of delivering on climate and broader sustainability expectations. You will be a trusted advisor, helping them make critical strategic decisions in an equitable, transparent, and profitable manner.

Our work

 

DNV provides assurance to the entire energy value chain through our advisory, monitoring, verification, and certification services. Our rapidly growing UK and Ireland Markets and Risk Department combines multidisciplinary experts from oil and gas, power, and renewable energy backgrounds. Colleagues strategically advise and support client companies throughout their energy transition journey. 

 

As our Senior ESG Consultant, you will work within the Transactions Advisory section. The section advises financial institutions and energy and infrastructure companies on due diligence projects across buy side, sell side, and project finance deals. The team includes a blend of specialists in the industry sectors and the associated technologies, partnered with expertise in climate risk, social engagement, policy and governance, and key environmental topics.

 

The Transactions Advisory section operates primarily out of London and Manchester, so we look for flexibility and a willingness to travel to these key hubs regularly, to aid collaboration with colleagues and clients.

 

Position Qualifications

How you will contribute

 

Much of the drive for change comes from the financial community, meaning you will work with investors, asset managers and corporate management teams. You will advise and support important interactions between these three critical groups. 

 

Creative, analytical and solution-orientated, you can interpret data, generate insights and provide recommendations

 

Some of the key tasks you will carry out include:

 

  • Conducting ESG due diligence studies for assets in the infrastructure, energy, and oil and gas sectors.
  • Creating and delivering ESG strategies and sustainability programmes, including policy and procedures.
  • Performing ESG materiality assessments for companies or portfolio level.
  • Aiding the implementation of ESG frameworks and standards, supporting reporting and disclosure of customers.  
  • Evaluating ESG performance of companies in the relevant sectors.  
  • Providing research, analysis and advisory insight and support to our customers.
  • Evaluating stakeholder engagement, social studies, and social risk assessment process against international standards.

What you will bring

 

To be successful in this position, you will have:

 

  • Demonstrable technical engineering experience (ideally consultancy experience) within the sustainability and ESG space including decarbonisation, climate risk, community engagement, supply chain, greenhouse gas emission, biodiversity and policy.
  • Knowledge of sustainable development goals, The Paris Agreement framework, climate change and energy transition frameworks and standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI); Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI); Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD); Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) etc.
  • Excellent report writing, oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Flexible attitude to working in a fast-paced and multidisciplinary environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with others, plan and prioritise activities, and to deliver against competing/tight deadlines.
