We’re looking for a Battery Expert to work on a variety of energy storage projects that incorporate primarily lithium-ion batteries. You will work closely with industry leaders on current and future battery technology developed by some of the most well-known manufacturers and integrators. 


This position will be key in growing DNV’s practice around lithium-ion batteries, along with forward looking growth into novel battery technologies such as sodium, lithium metal, and other non-lithium-ion alternatives. This position will include responsibility for project leadership, support, and business development.

 

This position could be based in our Chalfont, PA, Portland, OR, CA office. However, other office locations or remote work will also be considered.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Clearly communicate advanced technical concepts such as battery chemistry, cell performance, controls, charge and discharge strategies, and more to a broader audience
  • Model battery performance and degradation
  • Analyze and interpret technical data and documents
  • Improve existing models and tools
  • Collaborate with staff in the development of new business and projects for advisory and testing work
  • Present or aid in the development of presentation materials for conferences and workshops
  • Provide input on strategic planning and marketing decisions
  • Review, assess and opine on some of the most cutting-edge battery technology on the market
  • Manage projects and/or project tasks, executing deliverables
  • Meet key performance indicators individually and for the group
  • Interact with customers in person or via email, phone or video
  • Support the mission and vision, have some fun while you do it, and maybe make a few new friends

Position Qualifications

What is required

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in battery research or development
  • A foundational understanding of battery cell composition, performance, and degradation
  • Candidates should have one or more of the following skills:
    • Experience in battery testing or battery safety
    • Experience with energy storage hardware
    • Experience with data analytics related to battery cell or system testing
  • Experience in being part of collaborative project team(s) and ability to be customer-facing
  • Comfort with interpreting, analyzing, and synthesizing data using a programming language such as Python and presenting findings to customers
  • Work within expected deadlines, while being adaptive to changing scope or customer needs
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10-15% of the time
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening

What is Preferred

  • Advanced degree in chemical engineering, material science, or related field
  • Business development or involvement in industry groups or committees is desired
  • Familiarity with the construction and operation of energy storage systems, knowledge of novel energy storage technologies and comfort with equipment common to the energy industry
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Python and/or other software modeling tools and associated results

As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, DNV provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of Colorado only, the range of starting pay for this role is $110000 - $140000
