Local Unit & Position Description

DNV – Energy Systems’ Renewables & Power Grids group is seeking a talented Software Development Manager (Team Lead) within our Products and Data (P&D) team to accelerate and grow our culture of digitalization, innovation, and customer focus. In this role, you’ll be a trusted technical voice as you oversee our teams of software development professionals who build the products and digital solutions that drive engagement and inspire our users. This is a high-profile role where your contributions will have a direct impact across multiple service areas within our company as we support the energy transition and accelerate the deployment of renewables worldwide.

Ideally this position will be based out of our San Diego, CA (USA), Oakland, CA (USA), Montreal, QC (Canada), or Toronto, ON (Canada) office; however, other remote locations  may also be considered.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead distributed software development teams, set goals and objectives, assign tasks, and ensure each team member is meeting their responsibilities towards the successful delivery of software
  • Participate in software development projects as required, including coding, architecting, testing, and debugging
  • Identify talent needs within the team and develop a plan for recruitment and professional development
  • Develop and manage development resource allocations to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards
  • Coach and mentor team members, provide guidance and support, and promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement
  • Ensure that all software development projects are completed to a high standard of quality, and that they meet the requirements of the project stakeholders
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with software development projects, including issues related to software security, data privacy, and regulatory compliance
  • Assist in estimation, planning, and development of software projects, with a particular focus on best practices for technology, architecture, and security
  • Contribute to product transparency by reporting on KPIs, product development progress, and status updates to stakeholders and the team
  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve project dependencies, risks, and issues
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with product teams, software teams, and internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and design solutions
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in software development
  • Participate in the entire software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment

Position Qualifications

What is Required

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience developing web-based software products with multiple teams and diverse stakeholders
  • Proven experience as a software development manager, senior/lead software developer, software delivery manager, or similar role with distributed teams
  • Strong experience with at least one web programming language such as JavaScript, Python, C#, TypeScript, or Java (we primarily use Python and C#)
  • Experience with web development frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue (we use React)
  • Experience working with Azure DevOps or JIRA (we use Azure DevOps) along with version control (Git)
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, or GCP (we use Azure) along with a strong understanding of DevOps practices
  • Strong understanding of agile software development methodologies (Scrum), tools, and techniques
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with software testing and quality assurance practices, along with the ability and willingness to troubleshoot and debug software issues
  • Experience developing, working with, and integrating APIs or microservices
  • Ability to mentor and coach software developers across multiple agile teams
  • Willingness and ability to travel, up to one week per quarter
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Pre-employment drug and background screening

What is Preferred

  • Master's degree in computer science or related technology field from an accredited university
  • Renewable energy or related industry experience
  • Experience working with data pipelines, architectures, transformations.
  • Experience with data visualization tools, such as PowerBI
  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

As required by the various Pay Transparency laws, DNV provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado, California, Washington, or New York. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the states of Colorado, California, Washington, and New York only, the range of starting pay for this role is $135,000-$175,000USD
