DNV has carried out power failure and other non-conformity investigations since its inception over a century ago, and has since built up a wealth of experience in such investigations, as well as a structured approach taking all possibilities into account in our fully impartial and independent way. DNV performs failure investigations on both system and component level and investigations on components with degradation signs. Expertise is available for all power grid components like transformers, switchgear, (land and submarine) power cables, overhead lines, insulators, transmission towers, surge arrestors, capacitor banks, storage systems, rotating machines, secondary equipment, power system stability, earthing, protection, EMC, cyber security, etc. The combination of the various expertise areas is often required, as failures happen in a network where components are linked together and interact.
