In a typical energy IT environment, several components and devices from different manufacturers have to interoperate flawlessly. Communication standards are a basic requirement to realize open infrastructures and device interoperability. Energy companies often require that a product passes a conformance test before they will proceed to purchase. In DNV's experience, more than 90 percent of devices fail the first test. It has been proven that using certified products significantly reduces communication problems when a device enters service.   In Arnhem we operate the world’s first accredited IEC 61850 level A test lab and within DNV we are the centre of excellence on data communication protocols.
